Newsletter 8, Events @ the Shop The number and variety of events held at the Shophas continued to grow and grow, but probably our most exciting event to date was the privilege of hosting Clare and Chris’s wedding. When Clare said she would like to be married in the Meeting House it spurred us to investigate the possibility. The Meeting House has been solemnised for weddings in both the upstairs and downstairs rooms, and the Laundry has also been solemnised. This gives us the flexibility to host small intimate weddings, like Chris and Clare’s, in the upstairs of the Meeting House. Downstairs we can cater for people with mobility difficulties, and we can host larger events in the Laundry. Chris and Clare’s wedding and reception was very special and the Meeting House was everything we hoped it would be, and more. We have played host to the making of the Fabulous Water Beast which will eventually be a splendid water feature on the Lake in Llandrindod Wells. Many groups have come to help Richard Taylor beat copper and to create this amazing dragon and its five copper carp. It has been very rewarding to see it take shape. A variety of groups have come to have tea and to look round the shop. We particularly enjoy drawing people into the history and mystery of this extraordinary place. We have had the young and the old and many people in between. It is unfortunate that we are unable to make the first floor more accessible to people with disabilities but we try to ensure that they do not miss out by having plenty for them to see and do on the ground floor. We have run a few courses over the last winter but we have now joined Creative Days in Wales as one of four course providers. The new, and highly professional brochure, which we have to thank Pam Johnson for producing, isMarch 29, 2005winter learning the technique of Wax and Wire, exploring anatomy as the framework for wonderful paintings, or sculpture, writing poems, learning calligraphy, etc. etc. You can also get details from the internet: www.creativedays.co.uk The Laundry provides the backdrop to a whole host of events that either we organise, such as music and food evenings with Fernando and Friends playing South American music, or as a venue for conferences, parties, courses, bedding down the Forest School, enjoying the reverie of Christmas, the wedding reception, meals, cinema, We were particularly pleased to be able to return the favour to the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales who gave us an environmental Award last year and who came to hold their AGM this year. |
