Pressing Room Gallery

The Pressing Room was part of the Laundry for Llandrindod Wells from 1905-1917 and was a hive of activity employing 20 people. Included within the gallery space are features that relate to the former use of the room, including a mock-up of a flat iron stove. The furniture for the gallery is being designed to reflect the baskets and other implements that would have been in use at that time.

The first thing you will notice on entering the room is the wonderful floor which demonstrates what can be done with Welsh Timber. The floor is sponsored by WDA and the manufacturer Kenton Jones, from Welshpool, to demonstrate and trial, the tile of end grain timber that has been developed by Kenton Jones for the DIY market. Jorge Ordonnez has designed the floor to reflect the weaving patterns within laundry baskets and has turned flooring into something of an art form.

The Gallery features the work of 18 different makers, with the current exhibition celebrating the extraordinary talents that we have locally in painters like Wendy Davies, musical instrument maker Fernado Ordonnez, and the originality of designs by Jorge Ordonnez.
