Thomas Shop/Museum Penybont, Nr. Llandrindod Wells
If you are visiting Llandrindod Wells to enjoy its classic Victorian architecture, then a visit to the Thomas Shop/Museum is a must. The Shop/Museum is in Penybont, just five miles from Llandrindod Wells. Dating back to 1805, the Thomas Shop was the socio-economic centre for the area before the steam trains led to the development of the Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells. There has been a shop at Maesyfed, Penybont since at least 1700. The Thomas family bought the business in 1799 and they ran it until 1958. It remained closed until 2002 when it was re-opened as a Victorian Shop/Museum, by the current owners. The current fittings in the shop date to 1805, and you will find the shelves brimming with items that celebrate the period of time when the shop was active as both a drapery store and grocery store in Penybont. Since the opening of the shop we have been privileged to receive donations, from many members of the public that have added greatly to the ambiance of the shop.
.
The Thomas Shop is open from Friday to Monday and from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. every week-end throughout the year, except for Christmas and the New Year.
